Brief history of avalanche divas
- Idea first conceived at the 2004 ISSW in Jackson Hole by Nicole Greene, ISSW 2006 Co-Chair
- Partnership with Leslie Ross of Babes In The Backcountry of Breckenridge, Colorado, USA
- First Divas Event „Ladies Night“ at the ISSW 2006 in Telluride, Colorado, USA
- Our premiere as the „Avalanche Divas“ at the ISSW 2008 in Whistler, British Columbia, Canada
- Plan to continue the „Avalanche Divas Night“ at the first European ISSW 2009 in Davos, Switzerland with an organizing team of SLF employees
Our mission
- To honour women who made significant contributions to the field of snow and avalanches
- To offer female attendees the opportunity to gather, share information, and network with other professional women in the industry
- Provide mentorship opportunities with experienced snow and avalanche professionals to newer members of the community
- To preserve the history of women’s contributions to this field
- To create a support network and legacy of women in the industry
- To eventually establish a non-profit organizational structure and scholarship fund designed to empower women who are crossing new boundaries in the field of snow and avalanches.

ISSW 2006 Honorees
In honor of the late Sue Ferguson and her significant contributions to the snow and avalanche field a tribute was made by other pioneering women and special guests, Ed LaChapelle. Our honorees for the evening included: Betsy Armstrong, Patti Burnett, Jill Fredston, Fay Johnson, Janet Kellam, Sandy Kobrock, Evelyn Lees, Christine Pielmeier .
ISSW 2008 Honorees
A special tribute to Jerry Nunn who is a National Ski Patrol Avalanche Specialist in large part responsible for the Avalauncher’s prominence and success was made by Janet Kellam. Our honorees for the evening included: Lin Ballard, Mary Clayton, Margie Jamieson, Nancy Pfeiffer, Lynne Wolfe.

- Development of the Divas Event at the ISSW 2010 in Squaw Valley, California, USA
- Creation of a formal Steering-Committee to oversee this event
- Creation of a Scholarship Fund for females working in the snow and avalanche field
- Formal corporate sponsorship – obtain long-standing commitment from companies
- Maintenance of the website to provide women with a means to communicate between ISSWs
- New organizing team for the upcoming ISSW at Squaw Valley, California, USA.
